La Serena. Construction of the new Los Alcazares golf course is
now well underway at Las Lomas del Rame. Along with the first 18 hole golf course, the grand scheme,
covering 1,802,000 square metres
includes the creation of housing developments, a municipal golf school, a social club, a commercial centre and the construction of
three large 4 and 5 star hotel complexes.
These luxury hotels will supplement the five 3 and 4
star hotels which are already under construction in the town. It is expected
that these hotels will cost around 58 million euros to build.
Among the most notable features of the new development is the construction of a
cycle track which will link the key areas of the town and promote cycling as a
more desirable mode of transport within the town. The project calls for
extensive green areas and a new boulevard will traverse the golf course.
The route of the main avenue avda. 13th October
will be redirected as part of the new development and will form a new
commercial axis with a host of shops, restaurants and cafeterias.
According to the mayor, Juan Escudero, this project will elevate the town to a
position that the town council has been working towards for a long time
"…to turn Los Alcazares into the golf capital of the Mar Menor .
The project is running concurrently with the development of new golf courses at
the neighbouring towns of Torre Pacheco and Roda golf & Beach just inland
